Meta is seeking a Video Streaming Engineer to support all aspects of video streaming & broadcast engineering for event production, remote and cloud production, and company-wide communications. This position is part of the Enterprise Engineering organization, so candidates must be passionate about technology, live customer experience, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Global travel is expected with flexible working hours.
The Streaming Engineer will be responsible for supporting all aspects of video streaming & broadcast engineering for high-priority live events and streaming workflows globally. This includes video transmission via hardware and cloud-based encoders.
Video Streaming Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Manage Amazon Web Services and cloud-based broadcasting technologies and protocols; develop and iterate workflows.
2. Support live streams and events from a remote down-link facility, maintaining high quality throughout the broadcast chain.
3. Manage complex broadcast & streaming workflows and coordinate teams to execute large projects.
4. Collaborate with teams, partners, and external agencies to understand project requirements and develop specific technical workflows.
5. Develop a thorough understanding of the live stream ecosystem, continually assessing the competitive landscape and emerging trends.
6. Overcome challenges through innovative and imaginative solutions.
7. Engage in technical conversations and communication with internal and external parties, including content partners, event producers, and streaming vendors.
8. Monitor and debug issues, using data to identify trends and assess quality, aiming for continuous improvement.
9. Create and adapt technical and workflow diagrams for events with technical design requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. 5+ years of experience in all aspects of live video streaming.
2. Experience with AWS services, especially Media Live, Media Connect, and Media Convert.
3. Experience managing large-scale projects.
4. In-depth knowledge of video transport protocols: HLS, DASH, RTMP, RTSP, 2110, JPEG XS, NDI, MPEG-TS, RTP.
5. Background in broadcasting and live streaming, with demonstrated experience in digital video platforms.
6. Experience with live broadcast and linear encoding systems in professional environments.
7. Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced production schedule.
8. Proficiency with tools to encode/decode/analyze video and understanding of security best practices.
9. Experience managing complex project workflows, including technical design.
10. Hands-on experience with video encoding software.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in video, broadcast, and streaming.
2. Experience with FFmpeg tools.
3. Experience with video accessibility services like captioning and translation.
4. Experience with social platform streaming and broadcasting.
5. Cloud technology experience, specifically AWS.
6. Proven problem-solving and communication skills.
7. Ability to build and maintain good relationships with business partners.
8. Strong organizational skills, with effective prioritization.
9. Ability to work independently or within a team.
10. Willingness to learn new products and features.
11. Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and travel globally.
12. Experience and understanding of Digital Rights Management.
13. Knowledge of programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java, and experience developing web applications.
