The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a fixed-term (12 months) locally employed dental core trainee equivalent who will be predominantly based at the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford, with responsibilities across both hospital sites.
The appointee will work in the Oral & Maxillofacial department, participating in the on-call rota, inpatient ward rounds, as well as attending clinics and theatres as per timetable. There will be opportunities to develop experience in managing acute OMFS emergencies, inpatient ward skills, and general OMFS presentations in clinics. Additionally, there will be excellent exposure to procedures to improve oral surgical and skin soft tissue skills, both under local and general anaesthetic. Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is a core aspect of this role.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. To be responsible for the continuing care of patients as designated by consultant staff.
2. Part of the team performing daily ward rounds to ensure regular review of in-patients.
3. To participate in a 1 in 5 DCT on-call rota, responding to advice calls and managing patients as appropriate.
4. To participate in clinics, including general OMFS clinics, local anaesthetic minor oral surgery, and other specialist clinics if appropriate.
5. Attend regular theatre sessions under supervision to gain surgical exposure and develop surgical skills where appropriate.
6. To participate in meaningful audits within the department.
7. To participate in training of junior medical staff and other staff.
8. To deputise for colleagues at an appropriate level.
9. To carry out administrative duties supporting clinical commitments.
10. Note: Changes to the job plan may be made temporarily to facilitate patient care and safety, such as covering for colleagues on leave.

Together, they provide 99% of our activity, offering a wide range of acute services including accident & emergency, outpatient diagnostics, inpatient medical care, and critical care.
The post-holder will contribute to the Max-fax Tier 1 full-shift rota, designed to maximize training opportunities while maintaining safety and efficiency, with an even spread of long days and nights. The rota is compliant with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and WTD. The successful candidate will be one of five doctors contributing to this full-shift rota, with a weekend frequency of 1 in 5 and night shifts across a 5-week period, and will be covered prospectively for annual and study leave.
