Job summary
We are looking for a passionate, caring and self motivated pharmacy technician to join our Surgical & Critical Care Team at William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. This post is rotational between working on our surgical wards as well as working on our ITU which means you can really feel you make a difference to our patients.
This post would be suitable for either a newly qualified pharmacy technician or community pharmacy technician looking to start their hospital career as a band 4 to 5 progression. To progress to the band 5, the successful applicant would need to display that they could conduct the medicines reconciliation process, approach clinicians with confidence and resolve medicines related issues independently (within scope).
As part of the progression, the applicant would also need to display specialist knowledge in the surgical speciality and demonstrate understanding of treatment pathways and the impact on medicines for the patients in this environment.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities will include:
1. Completing detailed lists of medications a patient was taking prior to admission and reconciling this with the medications prescribed on the chart.
2. Evaluating suitability of patient's own drugs for use whilst in the hospital environment.
3. To participate in the discharge planning of patients with ward staff and other healthcare professionals both in secondary and primary care.
4. To counsel patients on new or changed medication to help promote compliance.
5. Completing audits.
6. Supporting governance work for the ITU and surgery care groups.
You must be an excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills. You will need to be forward thinking and enthusiastic, with a commitment to continuing professional development. You must have a strong passion for improving patient care, be a good problem solver and self-motivated.
