We have an exciting opportunity for an Ink Technologist to join our Pre-Press team at our site in Loughton, Essex. Reporting to the Pre-Press Manager, you will be responsible for day-to-day planning and manufacture of convert materials for production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan and manage ink production, including material ordering, stock control and progress reporting.
2. Manufacture inks to precise specifications, operate specialist lab equipment, and conduct quality checks using advanced testing methods.
3. Analyse test results, adjust batches to meet specification, and ensure accurate, auditable recording of all materials, tests and finished products.
4. Lead and support improvement initiatives, machine trials, troubleshooting across production areas, and contribute to R&D and quality‑control enhancements.
5. Maintain strict security and Health & Safety compliance, ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and well‑maintained, and uphold consistent colour and quality standards for all ink batches.
Contract type: Permanent
Working hours: Double Day shift pattern – Monday to Friday, 6am – 2pm or 2pm - 10pm (alternated weekly).
From 1st September, we will transition to a 24/5 Shift Pattern - consists of 3 crews of 12-hour shifts of either: 6.00 am to 6.00 pm; and 6.00 pm to 6.00 am, Monday to Friday rota. Attendance is 40 hours per week on average, including a 30-minute unpaid break plus a 15-minute unpaid break to be taken during the shift
Base location: Debden
Basic Salary: £46, per annum on Double Days, rising to £49, per annum on 24/5 shift pattern. Upon successful completion of a 6-month probation period, this will rise to £50, per annum.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
6. Higher National Certificate in Chemistry or A Level in Chemistry or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in the Ink Section
7. Detailed knowledge of ink manufacturing processes and printing processes
8. Detailed knowledge of chemistry analytical techniques
9. Ability to colour match
10. User knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and SAGE
11. Experience in a manufacturing environment
12. Understanding of banknote printing processes and associated security procedures
13. Previous experience of operating machinery in a factory environment
14. Able to work to tight deadlines and change priorities when needed
