Founding Imam & Community Lead – Dar Al-Rizwan (Dagenham, London)
Dar Al-Rizwan is seeking a capable, grounded and inspirational Islamic leader to help establish and grow a new community learning centre in Dagenham.
This role is central to the identity and future of the centre. We are not simply looking for someone to deliver classes. We are looking for someone who can help shape the culture, tone and direction of the institution from the beginning.
Dar Al-Rizwan will provide structured Islamic education, homeschooling support, youth development, community gatherings and recreational initiatives. The successful candidate will help build and lead this environment.
The role will involve delivering weekly Islamic classes for youth and adults, overseeing the authenticity and quality of the curriculum, mentoring young people, supporting homeschooling families, and providing pastoral guidance where needed. The individual will help develop structured courses in Aqeedah, Fiqh, Hadith, Seerah and character development.
Community engagement is a core part of this position. The Imam must be present, approachable and actively involved in building relationships with parents, youth and regular attendees. He should be comfortable engaging new families, welcoming visitors and creating a culture where people feel known and valued.
The role will also involve supporting fundraising and awareness efforts. This includes delivering motivating talks during campaigns, contributing to community events, and representing Dar Al-Rizwan in meetings with supporters and partners. The individual must be able to communicate vision clearly and inspire confidence in the long-term direction of the centre.
As this is a new institution, the successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership to help establish standards, expectations and adab within the space. He will contribute to the development of programmes and assist in building a strong volunteer base.
Applicants must hold formal Islamic studies training (Alimiyyah or equivalent structured study). A strong grounding in Aqeedah, Fiqh and Hadith is essential. Experience teaching both youth and adults is required. The candidate must be able to contextualise Islamic guidance for British Muslim families and communicate clearly in English.
We are looking for someone who is balanced, emotionally intelligent and grounded. The right candidate will be warm and approachable, yet principled and firm where needed. He must be able to engage confidently in public speaking and be comfortable working within a governance structure.
Salary will reflect experience and scope of responsibility. The role may begin part-time with the intention to grow as the centre develops. Expected range is £20,000–£40,000 depending on structure and funding.
The successful candidate will undergo enhanced DBS checks and must uphold safeguarding and professional conduct standards at all times.
