About the Role

As Research and Knowledge Exchange Development Officer, you provide support and guidance in the development, costing and initiation of externally funded research and knowledge exchange projects. The post-holder advises researchers on appropriate funding opportunities (including contract research/tenders), internal processes and timescales, and funder/client requirements.

You will support academics and their partners/collaborators through the pre-award costing and award set- up process. You are responsible for ensuring that ethical review, due diligence, risk assessments, and peer review are completed prior to submission; that the costing and pricing of projects is in line with funder rules and internal policies; and you will manage award acceptance, liaise with contracts specialists and ensure a smooth transition of successful projects across the Research and Knowledge Exchange Operations team.

You support the continuing growth in external income secured through research and knowledge exchange (RKE) activity by working with the Senior RKE Operations Manager to improve processes associated with external bidding and ensure that income opportunities are maximised.

About the Department

The Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate (RKED) is a growing team that manages the whole lifecycle of research and knowledge exchange activities at SOAS, from supporting researchers to applying for funding, to generating research impact, and commercialising new knowledge.

Building on the success of our REF 2021 submission in which we were ranked 40th for quality, research excellence and intensity are core to SOAS Vision 2030. We have set ambitious targets and KPIs which define the outcomes we want to achieve and have given thoughtful consideration to creating an environment that supports their delivery. The Research and Knowledge Exchange Directorate is recognised as a key enabler of our strategic goals through the provision of expertise, insight and a high quality, frictionless service.
