Here at Leonardo, Circuit Boards are central to our products. We are looking for a layout engineer to join the team doing this essential work for us.
This is an excellent opportunity to work on some of the most cutting-edge PCB designs, across a wide variety of technologies, including multi-layer analogue, high-speed digital, power, and specialist communications and interfaces at ultra-high frequencies of 40GHz and beyond.
What you’ll do as a PCB Layout Engineer:
You will collaborate with Hardware and RF engineers across various projects to develop innovative PCB layouts, from schematic import, component creation, and placement, to routing of high-speed power and mixed signals for thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility. You will finalize designs with accurate documentation (Gerbers, Assembly drawings, BOMs). You will use and develop your skills to deliver complex designs, utilizing the latest Siemens toolchain while complying with defence and industry standards to meet project requirements and ensure optimal performance and manufacturability.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Leonardo, with the option to work largely remotely. Occasional travel to the Basildon site is required.
What you’ll bring
HNC/HND or relevant degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing, or significant industrial experience with specialization in PCB design.
Experience with:
* Creating complex multi-layer PCBs with multiple design interfaces, including RF, digital, FPGA, power supply, and mixed-signal circuitry
* Reading schematics and designing PCBs according to design intent
* High pin count parts, high-speed signal routing, differential pairs, and standard interfaces like SMA, SMP, and USB
* ECAD library part creation
* Design for Manufacturing considerations
* Validating design data for supplier capability compliance
* Creating manufacturing output data packs
* Participating in project meetings and advising electronic engineers on design rules, materials, and substrate technology
* Liaising with external suppliers, PCB assembly houses, and fabricators
Candidates should be familiar with industry-standard ECAD tools for PCB design and layout. Experience with Siemens EDA Xpedition is desirable, but training will be provided.
This list is not exhaustive; we welcome candidates with varying experience levels. The most important qualities are a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
