Join Our Engineering Team: Production Engineer (Electrical)
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Production Engineer (Electrical) to join MacTaggart Scott (MTS), reporting to the Production Engineering Manager.
This role is central to ensuring our manufacturing and test processes operate efficiently, safely, and cost effectively. You will apply engineering and manufacturing principles to support new and existing products, working closely with Production, Design, Quality, and other cross functional teams to identify improvements, resolve technical issues, and enhance overall production performance.
Following an initial training period, the role operates with minimal day-to-day supervision, providing expert product and process knowledge across all Production departments.

What Is the Job About?
As Production Engineer (Electrical), you will provide hands on engineering support across new product introduction, product definition, and live production activities. You will ensure that manufacturing and testing processes are robust, efficient, and aligned to project, customer, and quality requirements.
Performance in this role will be measured by your ability to:

Key Responsibilities
* New Product Introduction & Concurrent Engineering
* You will provide Production Engineering input into the design process to ensure effective and efficient manufacturing methods, including:
* Supporting bids by estimating production engineering effort, manufacturing costs, qualification costs, and tooling requirements.
* Identifying production jigs, fixtures, and special tooling requirements.
* Contributing to design reviews, highlighting design-for-manufacture improvements and risk identification.
* Supporting make/buy decisions.
* Coordinating manufacture or procurement of tools and test equipment.
* Conducting pre-production assessments of new designs.
Product Definition Process
* Completing Manufacturing Bills of Materials (BoMs), including raw material specification.
* Creating inventory parts and manufacturing routings.
* Establishing manufacturing costs for new components.
* Ensuring production readiness prior to shop order release.
* Developing and completing process plan documentation.
Production Support & Problem Solving
* Acting as the first point of contact for day-to-day technical or quality issues within production.
* Liaising with cross-functional teams to resolve issues with minimal disruption.
* Investigating and documenting technical or quality problems and implementing preventative actions.
* Supporting lessons learned activities to enhance future manufacturing performance.
Health & Safety
* Supporting the Health & Safety Manager with method statements for complex or revised processes.
* Assisting with risk assessments and ensuring appropriate controls are in place before work begins.
About You
* You will be a methodical and organised engineer who:
* Has experience within Electrical Assembly or Test environments.
* Communicates clearly and works effectively within a team.
* Demonstrates strong problem-solving ability and can respond quickly to changing demands.
* Works independently with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks.
* Is proactive in identifying and championing continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Relevant apprenticeship with HNC.
* Experience within Electrical Assembly or Test departments.
* Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work independently and within a team.
* IPC-WHMA-A-620 certification.
Desirable
* Degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Experience using Microsoft Office packages.
* Experience with IPC-WHMA-A-620 standards in practice.
* Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing environments.
* Training will be provided on IFS, Windchill, Creo, and MS Office systems.
