Job Overview
We are seeking a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics to support the Department and the Trust in the provision of Elective and Emergency Orthopaedic Surgery with an emphasis on Hip and Knee Surgery.
The appointee will join a team of nine Arthroplasty Consultants and will work within the T&O team at large which includes nineteen consultants offering a range of sub-specialty services including Lower limb arthroplasty, soft tissue surgery, Foot & Ankle surgery, Spine surgery, Hip preservation surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, and Hand and Wrist surgery.
There is a Trauma on‑call commitment associated with the post on a third on‑call 1:16 weekday and weekend basis. The post holder is expected to contribute to departmental programmes for education and training as well as the clinical governance process within the Department and the Trust. The post attracts an on‑call availability supplement of Category A – low frequency: 1:9 or less frequent (3.0 % of full‑time basic salary). Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if in a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the regulations all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must continue to hold a License to Practise.
Responsibilities
* To maintain the highest clinical standards in the delivery of General Trauma and Specialist Arthroplasty, Trauma & Elective Orthopaedic out‑patient, operative and in‑patient care.
* To provide outpatient services in Arthroplasty as agreed after appointment.
* To share with colleagues the provision of Trauma & Orthopaedic advice to medical and surgical in‑patients.
* To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing, to improve and advance the service.
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
* To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary‑care colleagues and medical students.
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
