Homepage picture editor
This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract or internal staff secondment.
About the role
* Curate images that best represent top stories and breaking news on the Guardian’s homepages
* Create loops from video created by writers and photographers to embed on the homepage
* Edit photos for clarity, tone, and consistency with brand style
* Crop and position images to work effectively across devices
* Collaborate with editors, journalists, and designers to align visuals with headlines and story angles
* Ensure images are accurate, ethical, and legally compliant
* React quickly to news developments to keep the homepage visually fresh and compelling
* Create cut‑outs and composite images using Photoshop, as required
About you
* Proven experience in picture editing, ideally within the national media
* Thorough understanding of copyright and image licensing
* Confidence using Photoshop to edit images and video
* Knowledge of video editing software would be an advantage
* Sound knowledge of picture agencies, libraries and online archives
* Experience of commissioning photography
* Collaborative, open and inclusive in approach.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills
* Ideally you will have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to the role.
