Job Description
Plans, coordinates, and conducts efforts necessary to perform a variety of tasks associated with testing power systems, including operating and maintaining equipment. Devises approaches to accomplish work, resolve operational problems, and make decisions in situations where standard methods, procedures, and techniques may not be applicable.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Works with engineers/testing personnel to set up tests that properly adhere to correct test operating procedures and military standards.
2. Applies conventional engineering practices to analyze schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings, and parts lists. Examples include detailed circuit diagrams, hardware fittings, or test equipment.
3. Conducts specific test or experimental procedures requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of electrical power and distribution test procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records data.
4. Operates and transfers information from data acquisition equipment to support reliability and performance testing of electrical power and distribution equipment.
5. Coordinates efforts to ensure testing is accomplished in accordance with approved test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations to achieve test objectives.
6. Installs and operates sensitive data collection instrumentation, mobile power system devices, and maintains equipment necessary to collect, process, store, or obtain test-related data in accordance with test plans, manuals, policies, and regulations.
7. Performs duties such as power up/shut down of load bank procedures, setting voltage and frequency configurations, fault resets, calculations of load percentages, connecting power phases, and conducting tests for various voltage ratings.
8. Establishes circuit interrupter, maximum power, fuel consumption, and other specialized tests; processes data using defined methods and formulas.
9. Analyzes and presents test data in accordance with established methods.
10. Operates power system computers, software, and related technology effectively.
11. Identifies, documents, and communicates test-related or abnormal conditions promptly.
12. Develops or reviews designs of test fixtures/components using sound technical principles.
13. Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions.
14. Prepares Job Hazard Analyses, Risk Assessments, Test Plans, and Final Reports for testing.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Must have 7 years of applicable experience or equivalent education/experience combinations as specified.
* Basic computer skills required.
* 80% of all levels must have a forklift license; 50% must have Overhead Bridge Crane operator license; some must have a Class A CDL; 50% must be Respiratory Protection qualified.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
* Work performed in controlled office environments and in the field.
* Must be capable of extended computer use, lifting 25 lbs, and wearing PPE.
Terms of Employment & Eligibility
* Must be a U.S. Citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid driver's license, pass drug screening, background check, and obtain security clearance.
