The Role
Reporting to the Highway Contracts & Inspection Manager, you will be based out and about across the borough, carrying out highway inspections and ensuring the safety and maintenance of all public roads and associated facilities.
Responsibilities
* Carry out highway safety inspections in line with agreed inspection regimes within the HMMP, including reactive and ad‑hoc inspections.
* Accurately record safety and service defects; issue Highway ‘calling card’ to private landowners as required.
* Respond to enquiries and complaints regarding Highway services, taking action to reduce problems and promote customer care.
* Provide information and support RBWM highway claims procedures, collecting evidence and attending court as witness when required.
* When defects are identified, verify Council responsibility before proceeding; where budget allows, organise works, raise work orders, obtain necessary notices and permits.
* Manage works within the budget set by the Highways Contracts & Maintenance Manager, notifying of any potential overspend immediately.
* Ensure all works comply with Legal, Health & Safety procedures and enforce by‑laws, the Highways Act 1980 and other relevant legislation.
Qualifications
* Holder of a Highway Safety Inspection C & G 6033 with Lantra skills card, and a NRSWA qualification.
* Experience in carrying out Highway inspections.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision in a busy office environment, prioritising and organising a varying workload.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of dealing with all levels of people, including dissatisfied customers.
* Experience/knowledge in planning street works sites (signing, lighting, guarding and site safety).
