Key Responsibilities:
To oversee and manage the Bench Joinery department and the associated staff team, including:
* Curriculum management, Staff management, Student recruitment
* Maintaining and overseeing high quality teaching and assessment delivery across the bench joinery tutor team
* Oversight of student assessment and support for the IQA (Internal Quality Verification) function and the organisation of end point assessments (EPAs). The possession of high-level vocational assessment qualifications is desirable.
To contribute to aspects of the teaching delivery of the Bench Joinery course, including:
* Teaching and delivering course modules (Experience in the delivery of Level 3 Bench Joinery and Wood Machining will be highly desirable).
* Preparing teaching materials and schemes of work
* Carrying out assessment of practical and theory work
Guiding, managing and assisting the Bench Joinery team with the following:
* Working with the technician team and bench joinery staff to ensure the safe and efficient operation of woodworking machinery and the woodmill equipment.
* Oversight of team members’ schemes of work, tracking sheets and records and support in appropriate preparation, collation and presentation of such documents
The successful candidate will have the following skills, experience and qualities:
* Possession of a specialist wood qualification to level 3 as a minimum is essential.
* Experience of teaching delivery with a teaching qualification is essential.
* Experience of managing a teaching and learning department is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of qualification and assessment regimes (e.g. City & Guilds, NOCN, Apprenticeships etc) is essential.
* Experience of staff management and knowledge of how to motivate teams under your direction is essential.
* Proven track record of successful delivery of Carpentry and Joinery skills in manufacturing or teaching context is essential
* Knowledge of specialist wood machines and their maintenance is desirable.
* Excellent organisational and planning skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
* A flexible, proactive approach to work with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines and undertake occasional work and attendance at events outside normal working hours is essential.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with students, colleagues, parents and apprentices and employers is essential.
* Good literacy and IT skills to prepare correspondence and reports and maintain records to a high standard is desirable,
* Ability to work on own initiative and have a ‘can do’ attitude is desirable.
* Excellent team working skills with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues is essential.
* Smart and professional in presentation and an excellent attendance record is essential.
* An excellent ambassador at all times for the Department and the College is essential.
