An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Staff Nurse with excellent communication skills to work as part of the Ophthalmology Outpatient nursing team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to increase their skills by supporting clinics, supporting the development of staff, ensuring the smooth running of the department whilst contributing to and being responsible for quality care and patient safety.

Ophthalmology is an exciting outpatient environment which requires flexible and adaptable skills, an aptitude to learn and a motivation to develop your own clinical skills in line with progressive service delivery. This post is vital in supporting patients through their outpatient journey, as well as assisting with examinations and offering emotional support.

Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic trained nurse into a staff nurse post to assist with in the delivery of high standards of care.
The successful applicant will be required to work within various area of the department and demonstrate skills and knowledge of the below.
* Chaperoning, being a patient advocate
* Assisting in procedure clinics and supporting patient recovery.
* Supporting injection clinics.
* Supporting the development of new staff.
* Communicating with patients, their families/carers and staff.
* Time management
* Leadership skills/experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will:
* To contribute towards the smooth running and development of the department through effective teamwork.
* Contribute towards Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance.
* Ensure Health and Safety initiatives including audits are carried out within the departments.
* Will be expected to work independently/autonomously without direct supervision at times.
* Participate in the delivery of formal and informal teaching for the nursing staff and act as a resource for education and development within the service.
* To co-ordinate and manage the day to day running of outpatients.
* To recognize when to, and to escalate to the appropriate service.
* Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and staff.
* To participate in, and deliver as required, clinical supervision and reflective learning in accordance with Trust policy’

Essential criteria
* Evidence of ability to practice as competent practitioner.
* Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors.
* Evidence of ability to manage time effectively and prioritise case load.
* Demonstrate an understanding of and contribution to quality improvement.
* Demonstrate and understanding of information governance and confidentiality
Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
* Registered Adult Nurse
* Evidence of current CPD
Kowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Understanding of professional and current issues in nursing.
* Recent and significant post registration experience.
* Experience of working in Ophthalmology/Outpatients
