Divisional Director of Surgery

We are advertising for a Divisional Director for the Division of Surgery at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.
Rated as "Good" for Surgical Services by the CQC, the Division provides both emergency and elective surgical services, alongside anaesthetic and intensive care services. It takes Trust-wide responsibility for the performance of Elective Services and Cancer Services. The Trust is currently providing the best waiting times (RTT) for any Trust in the Midlands and is consistently within the best performance quartile nationally for timeliness of Cancer Care.
The Division is looking for a driven leader prepared to drive forward clinical best practice alongside the transformation of how the Trust provides urgent, emergency, and elective care.
This post is a 5 Programmed Activity role, with the remainder to be made up with Direct Clinical Care.
Stakeholder session and interviews will take place on 19th August 2025.
Responsible for developing the Division to drive the Trust's development as a clinically led organisation, creating a sustainable healthcare system in Walsall.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer to develop the Trust's medical provision and operational clinical services.
* Contribute fully to the development of strategy and policy, delivery of statutory and corporate responsibilities including leading financial and performance management, working in close co-operation with members of the Board in defining the Trust's strategy and business plan, determining the acquisition and deployment of resources to achieve these objectives.
* Provide exceptional leadership to both medical and operational staff within the Division, leading in a professional, respectful, collaborative and compassionate way, in line with the Trust's values.
* Lead the Trust's Service Improvement Programme in respect of the Division and act as a champion for patient safety, clinical effectiveness, and quality.
* Work in partnership with colleagues across the Trust to drive the achievement of the Trust's corporate goals, business plan, and achieving all Divisional performance standards incorporating quality, safety, contractual, people and financial objectives.
* Act as an ambassador for the Trust, ensuring the positive development of the Trust brand, championing the Trust's values and ensuring the recognition of the Trust in providing exceptional healthcare for patients.
