Offer description

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact on the health and well‑wellness of Aboriginal communities? Join the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley as an Aboriginal Environmental Health Field Support Officer within the Aboriginal Environmental Health Unit, where your work will contribute to initiatives that improve environmental health outcomes and foster community well‑being. In this role, you will collaborate with Aboriginal communities, their leaders, and administrative bodies, as well as key agencies like the Department of Communities, Department of Housing and Works, and the Environmental Health Directorate of the WA Department of Health. Your efforts will focus on addressing environmental health challenges and delivering health education and promotion programs tailored to schools and communities. Part of your role will involve site visits to Aboriginal communities, where you will learn and assist in implementing programs such as dog health and breeding control, housing maintenance referrals, clinical referral programs, food and water sampling, pest and mosquito control, and the Sentinel Chicken Program for infectious disease monitoring. You will learn about developing community Environmental Health programs and other health initiatives. You will also provide administrative support by preparing and maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. We place a strong emphasis on customer service, and you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, offering professional, timely, and accurate assistance. By developing strong relationships with the community, you will learn to understand and address their needs. Workplace health and safety is a priority for us to ensure safety procedures are followed, incidents are reported promptly, and equipment is used responsibly. If you’re ready to bring your dedication and passion to a role that truly makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Join us and contribute to a healthier future for Aboriginal communities in the region.

We encourage and celebrate diversity, welcoming applications from Aboriginal people, those identifying as LGBTQIA+, women, individuals of all ages, people with disabilities, and culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. Our aim is to create a workforce that reflects the community in which we live.

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley encompasses the towns of Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Camballin, and 54 Aboriginal communities throughout the region.
