Job Summary
The Health Care Support Worker will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, have good communication skills both written and verbal and are committed to providing high standards of care for patients, their families and carers within a hospital setting, with a willingness to learn and develop skills to support the smooth running of Ophthalmology Theatres. Must work well in a team. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.
* Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
* Assist patients achieve physical, spiritual and psychological comfort.
* Participate in the delivery of patient care and undertake clinical duties that are allocated and directly supervised by a registered nurse.
* Share with Team Leader information relating to patient care.
* Assist with patient personal hygiene needs.
* Assist with patient nutritional needs to include assistance with feeding.
* Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse in charge and respond to clinical urgencies.
* Utilise customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives.
* Escort and accompany patients needing to attend appointments to departments/hospitals within the Trust.
* Maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients.
* Undertake any other duties consistent with the overall grade of the post.
