• Based within Public Health and Regulatory Services, the role is central to the development and implementation of smokefree workplace strategies across the borough.

• The postholder will work with employers, staff, and partners to create healthier, smoke-free environments—contributing to long-term public health outcomes.

• This is a hybrid role, combining office-based, home-based, and site-based working arrangements, ideal for someone who can build relationships, influence behaviour change, and support community and workplace wellbeing.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

• Develop and implement strategies to engage local businesses in smokefree initiatives

• Provide expert advice and guidance on creating and enhancing smokefree workplace policies

• Deliver staff training sessions, toolkits, and workshops related to tobacco control and cessation support

• Work collaboratively with public health partners and stakeholders to support delivery of the local Tobacco Control Plan

• Focus on reaching priority workplaces, especially those with staff less likely to engage in health interventions

• Contribute to broader public health campaigns and tobacco harm reduction activities

• Monitor and report on outcomes, engagement levels, and progress towards tobacco control goals

Skills/Experience:

• Minimum of 12 months’ recent experience in public health or a related field (preferably with smoking cessation or tobacco control focus)

• Strong communication and engagement skills, with experience influencing behaviour change

• Ability to deliver training and presentations confidently to diverse audiences

• Knowledge of tobacco control strategies and public health promotion principles

• Experience working with local businesses, employers, or community organisations

• Confident working both independently and collaboratively in a multi-agency setting

• Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives or experience embedding health improvement policies

• Familiarity with regional or national smokefree frameworks and guidelines

Additional Information:

• A degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Sciences, Community Development).

• Location: Hybrid working – a mix of home working, office attendance (Walsall-based), and on-site business visits.

• Driving licence is required.
