Job Purpose
To contribute to research in the Geospatial Data Science Group, working with Professor Ana Basiri and the team to analyze geospatial data using various methods and models. The role involves working on research projects related to human behavior in urban systems, with applications such as navigation and minority group experiences. The candidate will contribute to high-impact research, publish in reputable journals, and participate in conferences and workshops. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing research proposals, and supporting outreach activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Simulate and model the behavior of individuals or groups in cities, especially minorities, using frameworks based on quantitative methods, computational social science, complexity theory, or agent-based modeling.
2. Collaborate with the Geospatial Data Science team and project partners like Ordnance Survey GB, Google, Microsoft Research, Uber, Meta, and the Alan Turing Institute to develop inclusive and responsible technologies.
3. Plan and conduct research aligned with project goals and university strategies.
4. Enhance research profile through publications, societal impact, and reputation building.
5. Present work at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
6. Support FAIR principles by making data and code repositories accessible and reproducible.
7. Participate in team meetings and wider community activities.
8. Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students.
9. Engage in outreach, teaching, and administrative activities.
10. Ensure safety and proper management of laboratory and experimental techniques.
11. Engage in professional development to enhance skills.
For Grade 8, the role involves greater independence, leadership, and responsibility, including funding, collaboration, publishing, and mentoring.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in relevant discipline; experience in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related fields.
* Knowledge of quantitative data analysis, geo-statistics, agent-based simulation, or computational social sciences.
* Experience in programming languages like Python or R.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of Geo-AI, spatio-temporal data, or volunteer geographic data.
Skills:
* Research creativity and collaboration skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Self-motivation, initiative, problem-solving, and pragmatic approach.
* For Grade 8: Leadership skills.
Experience:
* Postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
* Scientific writing and timely delivery of research outputs.

Terms and Conditions: Salary Grade 7/8, £39,347 - £44,263 / £48,350 - £56,021, full-time, funding for up to 2 years.
