Join to apply for the Solicitor (Social Housing Litigation) role at Ward Hadaway
We’re looking for a qualified Solicitor with 1 to 4 years post‑qualifying experience to join our established social housing litigation team in our Newcastle office, supporting housing disrepair claims.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our successful team, working in a dedicated housing disrepair team in the management and defence of housing conditions claims.
You’ll work with key clients—Housing Associations and Local Authorities—to support them in dealing with housing disrepair. You’ll be adept at handling challenging timescales, planning and organising effectively, and providing exceptional client service through strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
What will I be doing?
* You’ll manage a case load of defended disrepair claims (primarily issued claims but to assist with pre‑litigation matters where required)
* Contribute to periodic reporting to clients as required by and agreed with those clients
* Assist with supervision of junior paralegals in dealing with pre‑action disrepair claims
* Contribute to the department's wider business development objectives and initiatives to strengthen and expand client relationships
You’ll have:
* Familiarity with the Civil Procedure Rules and experience in dealing with volume litigation (specific experience in disrepair claims is preferable but not essential)
* Commercial awareness of the factors relevant to volume defendant litigation
* Advocacy and negotiation skills
* Strong time / diary management skills (including time recording)
* Excellent all‑round communication and interpersonal skills, as well as sound judgement
* An efficient and methodical approach
* Flexibility to adapt working styles and use different approaches where required
* Good prioritisation skills and ability to work with urgency to move matters forward
* The ability to work independently using your own initiative as well as working as part of a team
