Workshop Engineer (Band 4)
An opportunity has arisen with West of Scotland Rehabilitation & Mobility Centre (WestMARC) for a Workshop
Engineer, within our Yoker Depot. WestMARC provides a range of rehabilitation technology services for the West of
Scotland, covering 6 health boards delivered by clinical teams to wheelchair and seating patients and prosthetics
patients.
The post holder will work within a small workshop and technical team carrying out a variety of engineering,
fabrication and manufacturing tasks. Under the supervision of the Workshop Manager, the post holder will;
- provide technical expertise to the seating and wheelchair service within WestMARC Services.
- be responsible for the machining and fabrication of components and assemblies for the configuration and
modification of complex manual and powered wheelchairs.
- be responsible for the manufacture, assembly, modification and repairs of “in-house” seating systems.
- maintain appropriate liaison, communications and working relationships with clinical and technical staff to
ensure the efficient delivery and /or repair of wheelchairs, accessories, modifications and cushions.
- provide technical input, guidance and expertise in the assessment and development of modifications as
requested by the Bioengineering team.
- provide technical expertise in the development, manufacturing, commissioning, fitting and maintenance of
equipment as requested by the clinical team. This may include instructing carers and users in the use of
routine equipment as per manufacturers’ specifications and clinical conditions.
Applicants should be educated to SVQ Level 4 / HND and be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and
experience in a relevant engineering environment. Sound knowledge and experience is sought in the use of various
workshop and manufacturing equipment such as brazing and welding equipment, pillar drills, CNC milling and
lathe/polishing equipment, band and reciprocating saws, as well as a full range of hand tools. Experience in the use
of office IT packages and excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. The candidate should
also possess the ability to deal with difficult situations and to remain calm under pressure whilst carrying out time
sensitive tasks.
