Overview

The Nuclear Medicine Department, part of the Radiation Services group at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, provides a wide range of diagnostic imaging and in-vitro investigations together with molecular radiotherapies including I-131, Ra-223 and Lu-177 PSMA. We also provide scientific, technical and radiation protection advice and support to nuclear medicine services at other NHS Trusts.

Main duties
You will participate in the delivery of the clinical nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapy service, providing scientific and technical support. After training you will administer oral radionuclide therapies for patients with benign and malignant thyroid disease and support technologists/radiographers to deliver other therapies. You will work with the Lead Clinical Scientists and Lead Practitioner to develop SPECT/CT image processing, analysis protocols, and dosimetry for molecular radiotherapies. Working under the guidance of the MPEs you will provide nuclear medicine physics support to other hospitals and travel as required.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
* Good (1st or 2nd Class) Honours degree in physics or engineering
* Postgraduate qualification in physics or medical physics to MSc level
* State registration with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist
Desirable
* Completion of Scientist Training Programme (STP) or equivalent
* Close to completion of training and registration may be considered for initial Band 6
Experience
Essential
* Specialised training and practical experience in Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Protection
* Experience with technical equipment used in Nuclear Medicine and QA
* Experience in computing relevant to Nuclear Medicine
Desirable
* Experience in SPECT/CT imaging
* Experience in Nuclear Medicine therapy procedures
* Experience in radiopharmacy and/or cell labelling
Knowledge
Essential
* Specialist knowledge of imaging and therapy techniques in nuclear medicine
* Knowledge of radiation protection legislation and standards
Desirable
* Knowledge of radiopharmacy principles and in-vitro diagnostics
* Knowledge of good clinical practice in research
