Summary As an apprentice Fabricator, you will be working with various types of metal and tools to produce high-quality metalwork, along with block/day release to the AMRC Training Centre. Your skills will increase throughout the apprenticeship, helping you to grow into a full-time Fabricator. Wage £15,311.40 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices Check minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) Training course Metal fabricator (level 3) Hours You will work Monday to Friday. Your start and finish times, including your shift pattern, will be determined by the employing company. 39 hours a week Start date Wednesday 10 September 2025 Duration 3 years 3 months Positions available 1 Work Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work Role & responsibilities: Workshop fabrication involving working from drawings Constructing base templates, if necessary Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines Double-checking design specifications before commencing with cutting work Setting up metalwork machinery including rollers, punch presses, flame cutters and shears Fabricating and constructing metal components Grinding and finishing completed products Cleaning tools, equipment and work areas Using measuring tools and basic math skills to ensure accurate dimensions Operate welding equipment and other fabrication machinery Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with company and customer procedures Maintain good working relationship and positive attitude towards the ‘job or task’ and all Philford staff Ensure the appropriate PPE for the task and work area is worn at all times Where you'll work UNIT 35 WADDINGTON WAY ROTHERHAM S65 3SH Training Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills. Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements. Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation). Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity. Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment. Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment. Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel. Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity. Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location. Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc. Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques. Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products. Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements. Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications, drawing etc. Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity. Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment. Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements. Your training plan You will study on a Level 3 Metal Fabricator apprenticeship. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Level 3 standard. During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the training centre for one day a week for knowledge study. Requirements Essential qualifications GCSE or equivalent in: English Language (grade Grade C or 4) Mathematics (grade Grade C or 4) Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.
