To meet service requirements, we are looking to recruit five experienced clinicians who will work autonomously to a level of defined competencies, as agreed within local clinical governance frameworks.

The appointee will be based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary but will be required to support the Trust’s General Surgery workload wherever it is located. The appointee will work independently but will be supported by a consultant surgeon. The appointee shall be provided support for career progression and will be allocated a clinical supervisor.
The general workload includes dealing with emergency admissions and their management while on call. Elective work will involve operative and non-operative management of General/upper gastrointestinal & colorectal surgery (gallstone management, abdominal wall hernia surgery, day case surgery, benign & malignant colorectal Surgery).
The Appointee's Responsibilities Include:
* Providing specialist advice to patients regarding their illness
* Participating in the on-call rota for emergency general surgery
* Undertaking regular ward rounds
* Attending operating theatre and endoscopy sessions
* Working with colleagues to provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service
* Contributing to and participating in the development of the service
* Involvement in teaching, training, audit, and research

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota if the role is predominantly operational.
