Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist in Breast Screening

* To lead a team of breast screening CNS's within a large Breast Screening Service
* To provide optimal supportive care to those who have, or fear they have breast cancer and to their families and friends.
* To provide a comprehensive health promotion and education programme that will meet the information needs of health care professionals and the general public in order to optimise uptake of the breast screening programme in South West London.
* To provide a high quality specialist nursing service for clients within the South West London Breast Screening Service who have, or fear they may have, breast cancer.
* To work as an autonomous, specialist practitioner and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within Breast Screening.
* To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing expert clinical and social support.
* This includes liaison where appropriate with other agencies and the provision of specialist advice and education to those involved in delivering care to this group.
* To develop evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
* To provide expert health promotion and education in the field of breast cancer, breast health and breast screening to a variety of audiences; professional colleagues, students undertaking higher education and interested public and community groups.
* Represent the South West London Breast Screening service at regional meetings and events as required.


Main duties of the job

Would you like to build on your career in breast cancer nursing?

If you are currently working as an experienced breast care nurse this is an opportunity to lead an established team of Breast Care CNSs at a senior level, within a large Breast Screening Service.

You should be self motivated, and able to demonstrate the skills needed to work both autonomously and as part of a specialist multidisciplinary team. As well as the leadership and clinical aspects of the role the post holder will play an active part providing education and health promotion for the breast screening service through out South West London.


About us

The South West London Breast Screening Service is part of the National NHS Breast Screening Programme. It is based at St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust in Tooting and serves a population of approx. 210,000 women across South West London.

The CNS team provide individualised care, information and support for women who have or fear they may have breast cancer. The team also provide health promotion and education to women aged 50 -70, primary health care professionals and the wider general public about breast cancer, breast screening and breast health.

Their main site, St George's Hospital in Tooting - one of the country's principal teaching hospitals - is shared with St George's, University of London, which trains medical students and carries out advanced medical research. St George's Hospital also hosts the St George's, University of London and Kingston University Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences, which is responsible for training a wide range of healthcare professionals from across the region.

The trust also provides care for patients from a larger catchment area in southeast England, for specialties such as complex pelvic trauma. Other services treat patients from all over the country, such as family HIV care and bone marrow transplantation for non-cancer diseases. The trust also provides a nationwide state-of-the-art endoscopy training centre.

Person Specification


ESSENTIAL

* Significant experience of working with breast cancer patients.
* Experience of working with breast cancer patients in a specialist role
* Experience of working for a breast screening service


ESSENTIAL

* Specialist course in breast Cancer
* Specialist training in advanced communications
* Experience of working with clients who are effected by cancer genetics
* Experience of teaching both formally and informally
* Experience of using health promotion techniques.
