Learning Support Assistant
* Hourly Rate: £15.55 (PAYE) - £17.60 (umbrella)
* Location: South East London
* Job Type: Part-time (26 hours per week, Monday-Thursday)
* Contract End Date: 27/03/2026 (with potential extension)
We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide 1-to-1 support for a learner with challenging behaviour. This role is crucial in facilitating access to learning programmes and college services for young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
Day-to-day of the role:
* Assist in the educational and social development of learners under the direction of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
* Support the development of self-advocacy and independent learning skills of learners.
* Contribute to the assessment of students’ learning and personal progression, working with relevant staff to develop person-centred support plans.
* Provide support and assistance to learners for their personal care, safety, and well-being.
* Anticipate barriers to learning and participation, developing intervention strategies to minimise difficulties.
* Ensure learners are able to access and fully utilise college support services and participate productively in college life.
* Manage and ensure the availability and operation of specialist equipment, assistive technologies, and/or facilities as necessary.
* Support learners with additional physical/medical needs as required.
* Report any mobility problems and other safety issues in line with college health and safety guidelines.
* Assist in the review of learners' progress, ensuring individual support plans are updated and teaching staff are informed of any barriers to learning.
* Liaise with external agencies such as parents and key workers, forwarding information to support managers.
* Attend meetings as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience in supporting individuals with SEN, particularly those with challenging behaviour.
* Strong understanding of the educational and social development needs of learners.
* Ability to work effectively under the guidance of support managers and curriculum team leaders.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in managing and operating specialist educational equipment and technologies.
* Commitment to the personal care, safety, and well-being of learners.
* A current and valid C&A DBS check.
