Nutritional Assistant
Responsibilities
* Assist the qualified nursing staff in promoting and providing nutritional support for patients, including meal assistance and encouraging additional nutritional snacks.
* Help patients order meals, ensuring dietary preferences are met and provide feeding assistance where appropriate.
* Keep an updated record of all additional nutritional support required and provided.
* Monitor stock levels of nutritional supplements and snacks and order appropriately to maintain supply.
* Assist in weight monitoring and risk assessments.
* Exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
* Maintain high clinical and nutritional standards and promote nutrition within the ward.
* Perform duties as designated by the Ward Manager, Sister, Charge Nurse or Nurse in charge.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience of working in a hospital or caring environment (desirable).
* Computer skills (desirable; full training provided).
* Ability to work independently and as part of a proactive team in a ward environment.
* Adaptability to flexible working hours.
* Fit and Proper Person Requirements (FPPR) checks will be required in line with CQC and NHS England guidance.
Training & Development
All new Nutrition Assistants must undertake the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Care Certificate Programme. Full participation is mandatory; clinical practice will not commence until completion of the initial three days.

The Trust holds a sponsor licence. Sponsorship is available only if the role and applicant meet UKVI eligibility requirements. Successful applicants will pay for their own DBS certification; payment will be deducted from the first monthly salary.
