The company was acquired in 2012 by the OBG Group; a privately-owned company based in Liverpool.Today, OBG employs over 300 personnel with a turnover in excess of £80M, generating £10M EBITDA per annum.

Production Technologist (PT)

The PT is primarily responsible for the technical management of existing commercial products and processes to improve process robustness and reduce variation. This will include day to day identification, prevention and troubleshooting of production issues, process improvement and process optimisation, with change control and updated documentation to ensure that changes and improvement are made permanent. The role will also include laboratory work to investigate problems.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

General

· Issues Management - Create reprocessing documentation and deviations and, where necessary, perform experimental work to support them. Support the Tier 2 meeting to ensure the production plan is delivered and OTIF targets are met.

· ManDocs - Author and/or update SOPs or manufacturing documentation to reduce process variability. Create and implement change controls as required to ensure improvements are documented and permanent. Involve production technicians in finding best practice and train this out where applicable. Lead investigations into process variation with a view to improvements and a reduction of repeat issues and ideally elimination. Also work closely with R&D and quality functions to ensure processes are developed and improved to increase process reliability and robustness.

· Yield and OOS - Understand the impact of botanical raw material variability on finished products meeting specification. Adapt processes to absorb this variability or improve raw material specifications to reduce the risk of finished product failure.

· New Product/Process Support - Act as the production point of contact for all NPI activity including validation batches and pilot plant planning (future). Oversee all validation batches and ensure clear communication of any issues to the validation team (R&D or Validation Engineer). Support the execution of the SVMP (site validation master plan). This may include carrying out various tests or commissioning of equipment for IQ, OQ and PQ. Work closely with R&D to obtain clear visibility of new processes and equipment via a close involvement in the New Production Introduction (NPI) process in order to maximise successful new product implementation.

· General Activities – Perform other activities to help the smooth running of production and the business. For example: Order consumables for production where required; Provide technical information for QC/QA; chase change control approvals.

EH&S

·Act as a leader in both manufacturing and the laboratory, promoting safe working at all times. Ensure that safe working systems and practices are in use.

·Where changes are made, ensure the production team understand the hazards and precautions required for the activities undertaken and materials used.

Experience, Skills and Education

· Degree in Chemistry or equivalent. (Mandatory).

· Experience of process development and manufacturing systems (Mandatory).

· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and a bility to use trends and data to review and improve performance. (Mandatory)

· Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment and excellent communication skills (verbal and written). (Mandatory)

· Knowledge of process improvement of herbal API’s (desirable - distinct advantage).

· Understanding of technology transfer of processes from lab scale to production scale. (desirable)

· Knowledge of validation requirements in a manufacturing facility. (desirable).

· Knowledge of problem-solving techniques such as Fishbone, 5 whys, Is/Is not, DMAIC and/or 8D problem solving. (desirable).

· Relevant GMP knowledge (desirable).
