The Medical Psychology service provides psychological assessment, support and treatment to medical patients and staff across the Group Hospitals of Tees sites. Within this, the cancer service provides specialist psychology input to the oncology, haematology and palliative care services.
The post holder will deliver specialist clinical psychology services including assessment, formulation, interventions and evidence-based therapies working as an integrated member of multidisciplinary oncology and haematology teams, including consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Allied Health Professionals. The role promotes the full range of psychological skills, including teaching/training, consultation and supervision, both with qualified/unqualified and non-psychology colleagues
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist to provide specialist clinical services within the neuropsychology team. This post will involve working across different services areas as required, which may include:
1. Oncology
2. Haematology
3. Multi Disciplinary Teams
We welcome applicants who have experience in cancer care or complex health settings who are motivated by psychologically informed multidisciplinary working and improving outcomes for people living with serious illness. The post holder will work with patients and families affected by advanced illness, uncertainty, loss, medical treatment side-effects and end of life care.

4. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, including people with physical health conditions across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
5. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients psychological care and treatment, both as an individual practitioner and also within the context of multidisciplinary care.
6. Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatments of people affected by cancer or other life limiting conditions across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community and inpatient settings.
7. Experience of teaching,trainingand professional and clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
8. Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
9. Experience in one or more medical psychology settings.
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
10. For Psychologists: Post-graduate doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996, Counselling orHealth Psychology as accredited by theBPS &/or HCPC. For Psychological Therapists: A recorded/registered qualification in a core health or social care profession at graduate level ( nursing, social work, occupational therapy) or have passed the Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) pre-requisite criteria as recognised by the BABCP prior to undertaking post-graduate training. Completed BABCP Level 2 postgraduate training at a level required for BABCP accreditation.
11. Completed training course in clinical supervision and/or accredited to supervise qualified psychological practitioners in relevant discipline
12. Current registration with the BABCP as a Psychological Therapist orHCPC Registration as a Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychologist.
13. Additionaltraining beyond entry level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice or therapeutic approach ( Acceptance andCommitment Therapy) relevant to the psychological needs of medical patients(at least level 1 training) OR a combination of specialist short courses and/an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by a registered body.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
14. Well-developed knowledge of research design andmethodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of psychology.
15. Todemonstrateexpertknowledge ofpsychological principles relevant to the clinical specialism through both direct clinical contribution and as a resource to the whole of the multidisciplinary team in terms of patient management.
16. Knowledge of legislation in relation to relevant client groups and the healthcare system.
17. Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies
18. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the British Psychological Society and Health and Care ProfessionalsCouncil or British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
