Epsilon Systems is seeking a full-time Electrical Foreman in the ME division located in Portsmouth, VA
Summary: Supervise/manage workers who modify, repair, install shipboard electrical systems/components. Train, oversee and mentor lower level trades and helpers to improve their technical skill making them eligible for advancement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel.
* Monitors employees' work levels and reviews work performance.
* Monitors tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions.
* Investigates accidents and injuries, and prepares reports of findings.
* Compiles operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results.
* Develops, implements, and evaluates maintenance policies and procedures.
* Counsels employees about work-related issues and assists employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
* Responsible for ensuring employees charge to correct project number(s).
* Examines objects, systems, or facilities, and analyzes information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
* Conducts or arranges for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
* Uses applicable electrical measuring instruments i.e., meters, ammeters, meggers, etc.
* Reads and understands blueprints, technical manuals and repair standards.
* Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems.
* Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
* Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
* Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
* Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
* Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
* Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors.
* Works from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
* Plans, assigns, schedules, and supervises the work of skilled and trades helper subordinates on various shipboard system repair and installation projects.
* Prepares cost estimates of labor and material; orders supplies, material, and equipment.
* Prepares routine work and time reports and maintains standard records.
* Recruits and trains subordinate personnel; establishes safety and work performance standards.
* Performs related work as required.
Required Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED
* 12 years shipboard electrical experience.
* Minimum five years supervisory experience in marine and industrial environment (ship repair and modernization).
* Able to write clear, concise reports.
* Able to supervise all other trades.
* Ability to obtain access to military/government installations worldwide.
* Be able and willing to travel with some travel being for extended periods of time.
ADA Notations:
* Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships).
* Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight.
* Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
* Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors.
