About Us
Established in 1975, Sopher + Co has grown from its roots in Elstree to become a trusted adviser to entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses, high-net-worth individuals, international families, and expats. While our early reputation was built in media and entertainment, our clients now span more than 20 industries across the UK, US and beyond.
Our specialist US practice provides consultancy and advisory services to individuals and businesses investing into the US, as well as US persons with interests in the UK and Europe. We support clients with cross-border structuring, entity formation, tax mitigation strategies, treaty applications and tax-efficient repatriation planning.
As our US/UK tax offering continues to expand, we are now seeking an experienced US Associate Director to support the leadership of the team, deliver high-quality advisory work, and help shape the continued growth of this specialist service line.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a pivotal role in both client delivery and team leadership. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Oversee the preparation and review of US and UK personal tax returns, ensuring accuracy, quality and timely delivery.
* Manage enquiries and correspondence with both the IRS and HMRC, including involvement in more complex or technically challenging cases.
* Conduct high-level technical research and provide clear, practical recommendations to clients.
Leadership & Team Development
* Support the Associate Director & Partner in managing a growing team of US/UK specialists.

* Uphold compliance with internal policies, professional standards, confidentiality requirements and health & safety obligations.
About You
You'll be confident, technically strong and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where quality and client service matter. You'll bring significant experience in US/UK personal taxation-ideally around 10 years with the credibility to advise high-net-worth and internationally mobile clients.
You will also bring:
* Strong US tax technical expertise, supported by relevant post-graduate or professional qualifications (CPA, EA or JD).
* Solid grounding in cross-border US/UK issues, including residency, treaty relief, and complex gain calculations.

In Return
You'll join a warm, collaborative, and ambitious firm where people genuinely matter. We offer a competitive package, clear career progression, and the opportunity to work with a high-profile client base rarely found in a family-based practice.
Sopher + Co is committed to equal opportunities and creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We value what each person brings and believe our culture is central to our continued success.
