The SLT will be responsible for providing assessment and intervention for individuals with speech, language, communication needs, and swallowing difficulties.
To work as an integral part of the Prison Mental Health team.
You will be part of a friendly and supportive wider Health and Justice SLT team working across various prisons.
To work with individuals and their supporters by providing communication advice and strategies in relevant formats.
To raise awareness and enhance the workforce's knowledge and skills in SLC needs.
To provide relevant and meaningful therapy input where appropriate.
Objectives:
1. To provide an exemplary and comprehensive assessment of SLCN for all eligible referred individuals.
2. To work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team.
3. To operate within a robust clinical operating framework.
4. To provide high-quality advice to key agencies and prison teams, including mental health services, staff, Prisoner Officers, Alcohol and Drug Recovery services, Education and Employment services, and Probation.

We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to join the HMP Northumberland Mental Health Team, a Category C men's prison.
The service provides assessment and treatment within the prison setting.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic SLT service within TEWV, with peer support, supervision, CPD opportunities, and a supportive team environment.
The role requires a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and significant experience working with individuals with mental health or learning disabilities and complex needs.
The position is subject to Prison vetting.
We aim to ensure a positive onboarding experience, with two start dates per month on the 1st and 3rd Mondays.
