Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and forward-thinking clinical pharmacist to lead thrombosis and anticoagulation pharmacy services at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), following the retirement of the current postholder. This senior leadership role offers the chance to shape and deliver high-quality, safe and innovative anticoagulation and venous thromboembolism (VTE) services across a large, complex organisation. Working as a key member of the multidisciplinary thrombosis team, you will influence practice at both divisional and Trust-wide level, driving improvements in patient safety, clinical effectiveness and service development. You will join a dynamic and highly regarded Pharmacy Department with strong links to UCL and the wider North Central London Integrated Care System, providing excellent opportunities for professional development, research and service innovation. This role is ideal for a motivated pharmacist with specialist expertise in thrombosis and anticoagulation who is passionate about leadership, quality improvement and delivering outstanding patient care.

Main duties of the job

1. You will lead and coordinate clinical pharmacy services for thrombosis and anticoagulation across UCLH, working closely with medical, nursing and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver safe, effective and patient-focused care. This will include active participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, targeted ward rounds and specialist clinics, where you will provide expert therapeutic input and act as a prescriber where appropriate. You will lead on quality improvement, clinical audit and service evaluation projects, using data to drive improvements in safety, effectiveness and value for money. Education and workforce development will be central to the role, with responsibility for developing and delivering training strategies for pharmacy and multidisciplinary staff, as well as acting as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner to support non-medical prescribers.
2. As part of our broader clinical pharmacy team, you will contribute to the implementation and analysis of local and national initiatives to further develop our services. You will also contribute to the delivery of educational and developmental programmes, including UCL School of Pharmacy undergraduate clinical placements, the JPB Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, and our rotational programme for band 7 clinical pharmacists
