Want to be a part of a team that is on the frontline of children’s and young people’s mental health?
As an Education Mental Health Practitioner you will work directly with children and young people in schools, helping them to build resilience and feel in control of their lives. You will deliver evidence-based support for pupils with mild to moderate mental health needs and make a real and lasting impact.
Main responsibilities
* Deliver one-to-one therapeutic interventions, such as CBT or solution-focused work, to support children and young people.
* Facilitate group interventions and support staff learning in schools.
* Advise teachers and support families, helping to embed a whole-school approach to emotional health.
* Build relationships and raise the visibility and effectiveness of mental health support within the school community.
* Maintain accurate records, manage risk and comply with safeguarding and capacity frameworks.
Requirements
* A recognised qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner.
* Experience delivering therapeutic interventions, e.g., CBT or solution-focused work.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and capacity frameworks, including Gillick competence.
* Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an education or health setting.
* Confidence managing risk and maintaining clear records.
* Strong communication skills, especially when working with families, schools and professionals.
* Ability to travel between school sites, with access to a vehicle or suitable alternative.
Desirable skills and experience
* Experience working with vulnerable groups, such as children in care or those facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
* Experience of delivering specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people or their families.
* Knowledge of specialist Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing services.
* Experience monitoring and recording outcome measures for child emotional wellbeing.
* Ability to teach others about mental health issues and conduct group interventions.
* Proven commitment to continuous professional development.
