About us Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen’s House. The Role The Security Officer’s role is to ensure effective security cover across the Museum sites and outstations to safeguard the Museum’s buildings, Cutty Sark, the collections, staff, and members of the public visiting the sites. Security Officers also provide important customer service duties and ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is followed. Key responsibilities include efficient monitoring of and responding to intruder alarms and CCTV; responding effectively to emergency situations and supporting disaster and evacuation plans; and locking grounds and buildings as required. Further responsibilities include managing car park access and issuing keys, as well as providing site security patrols and static stewarding. The successful candidate will be reliable, responsible and trustworthy; able to remain calm and confident in emergency situations and respond as required, with the ability to take on and follow information relating to systems and procedures. The postholder will take a proactive approach to security and safety and have an awareness of Crime and Terrorist threats, along with a positive approach to working in team situations, and the ability to work alone for extended periods. Computer literacy, an understanding of good customer care, and good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The postholder must also be able to work a 12 hour shift rota, and live within a reasonable commuting distance. This is a zero-hours, casual worker role in band 8 - Assistants. The hours of work will range from 8-12 hours, day and night shifts available, and will depend on the requirements of the Museum. The Museum is under no obligation to offer the successful candidate work and the successful candidate is under no obligation to accept work offered to them. Casual workers are entitled to paid annual leave, which is accrued based on the number of hours worked. For each hour worked, an additional 12.07% of the hourly rate will be accrued and paid monthly. Security Officers are required to wear uniform and a staff pass, as provided by the Security Manager and the Museum.
