Within the Digital, Data and Technology Directorate at NHSBT we have some ambitious plans to deliver change over the next five years. Working within the Blood Technology Modernisation Programme, you will be at the forefront of supporting this change. The role will be varied, supporting work in the various capabilities across the function and department. You will help to support with project and programme work, demand and capacity management, undertaking a variety of duties to help ensure the success of these plans.

This is a unique opportunity to expand your understanding of Portfolio, Programme and Project methodology and delivery. You will therefore have a good grasp of project management through the complete lifecycle, supported by an excellent grasp of IT packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to use these to produce professional reports. Good verbal and written communication skills are more important. Calm when under pressure, you will be a team‑player with exceptional organisational and prioritising capabilities. You will also be educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent, and you will be keen to learn.


Main duties of the job

Your role is to support the Portfolio Manager to make sure that the great work being undertaken to make changes in NHSBT and specifically DDTS is delivered to the best possible standards. Your duties will include:

* Ensure the portfolio reporting is completed to relevant timescales and quality expected
* Give support to the portfolio team with specific tasks such as stakeholder events, preparation of meetings, presentation preparation
* Liaise with the portfolio teams to collate required information, feedback and updates
* Provide support to key review meetings stage gate reviews, design reviews, planning workshops and other key meetings
* Preparation of action and decision logs, meeting agendas and distribution of relevant paperwork.
* To monitor the resourcing profiles and support arrangements for bringing in external contractors including monitoring of expenses and timesheets
* Support to Heads of Portfolio in management of project costs and benefits
* You are required to ensure that you follow health and safety policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Managers will address the health, safety and wellbeing of any staff they are responsible for, in proportion to the level of risk in their department and promote a positive safety culture.

You may be required to spend time away from base to meet the requirements of the post which will involve working irregular hours and to travel extensively, including overnight stays when required.

Qualifications

* Educated to HNC/HND Level or equivalent level of education
* Willingness to gain further formal training or experience in project/programme methodology and delivery
* Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).


Experience

* Project Management understanding through the complete project life cycle.
* Knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages including Project Office, Word, Excel
