We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Preston, a category B Prison located in Preston. HMP Preston is a remand male prison aged 18+ with a capacity of 680.

The senior nurse will be managing caseloads and dealing with crises. You will be based within the mental health team and you will also be required to see patients on the prison wings.


Hours

* 37.5 hours per week
* Monday – Friday
* 8:30am – 4:30pm and 12:30pm – 8:30pm; after completing probation we can look at working 37.5 hours over 4 days
* 1 in 4 weekends


Salary

This position is full time. You’ll receive an annual salary up to £42,094 – £47,466 per annum FTE depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.


What you’ll be doing

As a Mental Health Clinical Lead, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

* Work as part of and lead the Mental Health team within the Integrated Healthcare Services team
* Provide clinical leadership and management to Registered nurses and allied health professionals
* Establish inter-agency working where necessary to ensure good communication and quality of care for patients
* Ensure own clinical practice is aligned with autonomous practice within the role
* Based on the Wellbeing Approach and Practice Plus mental health policy, provide nursing triage, screening and assessment
* Participate in developing local operating procedures to ensure pathways are clear for clinicians
* Ensure all complaints/concerns relating to Mental Health are dealt with in a timely fashion
* Nurse-led treatment or care within mental health
* Confirm waiting lists are well managed to minimise waiting times for patients
* Medicines management/advice including supporting medicine administration

Qualifications required

* Registered Mental Health Nurse - NMC
* BSc or equivalent qualification
* Experience of providing supervision
* Teaching/Mentoring experience and/or qualification
* Evidence of appropriate continuing professional development/activity to maintain up-to-date knowledge and ongoing competence in all aspects of the role

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
