1.0 SUMMARY The Operations Manager shall oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the production floor, ensuring that production targets, quality standards, and safety protocols are adhered to. This role involves leadership of the production team, coordination of machining operations, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimise productivity, reduce downtime, and maintain high-quality standards. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in quality processes, leadership, and problem-solving within a manufacturing environment. 2.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Production Planning & Coordination: Develop and implement production schedules to meet customer demands and internal deadlines. Coordinate production activities (across multiple shifts, if required), ensuring optimal utilisation of resources. Monitor work orders and production progress to ensure on-time completion. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate production staff, including engineers, technicians and other team members. Provide training and support to staff in quality processes and safety procedures. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and drive employee development and engagement. Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of work centres and equipment in the workshop. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to production processes. Ensure that machinery is properly maintained and calibrated to meet production standards. Quality Control: Ensure that all products meet the firm's quality standards and client specifications. Implement and monitor quality control procedures and inspections at various stages of production. Identify areas for improvement and lead initiatives to enhance product quality. Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety policies and ensure a safe working environment, complying with all regulatory and safety standards. Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions where necessary. Ensure that all employees are trained in safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Continuous Improvement & Process Optimisation: Analyse production data and performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for efficiency improvements. Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects (such as lean manufacturing, 5S, or Kaizen) to reduce waste, improve workflow, and enhance production efficiency. Work with engineering and maintenance teams to optimise machine performance and production capabilities. Reporting & Documentation: Prepare regular production reports, including output, downtime, and resource utilisation. Track inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and parts, and coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely restocking. Maintain accurate documentation of production processes, quality inspections, and safety audits. 3.0 SKILLS Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Knowledge of safety standards and best practices. Proficiency in production management software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. 4.0 EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC operations, tooling, and materials. Proven experience in production planning, team leadership, and process optimisation.
