Role Overview: Community and Environmental Support Officers (Environmental Rangers) work within either the Community Safety or Environmental departments. Currently, all vacancies are within the Greenspace Action Team, focusing on environmental initiatives. Please refer to the attached Job Profile and Focus Sheet for detailed responsibilities.
Role Description: With a passion for the outdoors, you will work with nature and inspire others. This role offers opportunities to develop skills and contribute significantly to environmental work. As part of the Greenspace team, you will consider our environmental impact and ways to help.
Flexibility is key as no two days are alike. You might maintain green spaces or engage with the public, encouraging a love for our natural areas.
Focus Areas:
1. Ward Support: Light maintenance tasks such as graffiti removal, managing overhanging vegetation, unlawful signage, littering, and small-scale street maintenance, including reactive highway work. Maintenance of Public Rights of Way is specific to this role.
2. Fly Tip Clearance: Clearing fly tips and gathering evidence for enforcement actions in collaboration with Enforcement Officers.
You will join a team tackling anti-social behaviour to improve community quality of life, engaging with diverse groups and undertaking environmental improvements. The role requires outdoor work, attention to detail, proactive community engagement, and excellent communication skills.
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience working in public environments with direct customer and staff contact.
* Ability to organise, prioritise tasks, and work independently.
* Understanding of local community issues and engagement skills.
* Numeracy and literacy skills, computer proficiency for record-keeping and reporting.
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
* Physical fitness to walk, bend, lift, and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Medical screening required.
* Full driving licence to operate relevant vehicles and ability to travel to various locations.
