Job Description
Role: Debt Recovery Solicitor Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire Salary: £30,000 - £45,000 Contract: Full time, permanent We are seeking a Newly Qualified Solicitor to join a growing Legal Department within a fast-paced debt recovery environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an NQ looking to develop their litigation skills, manage their own caseload, and gain exposure to a broad range of defended debt recovery matters. You will be supported by an experienced team while taking ownership of your own files, working across small claims, fast-track, and multi-track cases.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and progress a caseload of defended debt recovery matters, including small claims, fast-track, and some multi-track cases, with appropriate supervision
* Use a diary system to ensure timely progression of cases and key deadlines are met
* Review pre-legal debts and assist in assessing suitability for legal action
* Support and conduct litigation on defended matters, including drafting pleadings, witness statements, and preparing court bundles
* Provide clear and practical legal advice to clients on recovery prospects and dispute resolution
* Assist clients in resolving disputes and addressing reasons for non-payment
* Liaise with courts, enforcement agents, and third-party suppliers to support efficient case progression
* Gain exposure to insolvency-related actions, including bankruptcy and winding-up petitions
* Assist with return of goods claims and enforcement processes
* Support the wider team and take part in ongoing training and development
About You
* Newly Qualified Solicitor (or due to qualify shortly)
* Previous experience in litigation or debt recovery (including during training contract) is desirable
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload
* Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach
* Keen to learn, develop, and build a long-term career in litigation and debt recovery
