Overview of the Role
The Divisional General Manager (DGM) is a key senior leadership role in the Energy Unit leading an established and successful team of over 500 across 15 offices in 4 countries. This division is diverse with significant future opportunities. The DGM will identify and set the strategy, direction and lead on culture for the Nuclear Defence and Civil division to deliver ambitious profitable sustainable growth targets over the next 2‑3 years, focusing on winning and delivering projects while creating enduring client relationships.
Key Accountabilities
* Prepare and deliver Divisional strategic plans, feeding into both Unit and Sector Plans, ensuring the Division achieves its objectives and optimises financial performance and operational productivity.
* Be accountable for overall delivery of budgetary targets, striving for continual improvement across the Division’s business and project performance, and productivity through sound financial management principles and continual review of appropriate management information.
* Grow and nurture external relationships, build and maintain strong networks with key clients, business partners, and competitors, driving joint initiatives where appropriate and using these networks to influence and impact the growth and direction of the business.
* Ensure sufficient resourcing across the Division to meet the business requirements, engaging with Resource Managers and key stakeholders where appropriate.
* Maintain and grow a diverse and collaborative Divisional executive to deliver leadership and services to our people, clients across the division, the wider EEN Unit and MM Group.
* Establish and nurture an innovative, challenging, collaborative, and high‑performing work environment, supporting and fostering the Mott MacDonald values and culture.
* Continue to improve employee engagement, retention, wellbeing and career development opportunities for all in the Division by utilising appropriate people‑management processes and principles.
* Manage and lead the Division in compliance with established company policies and Business Management Systems and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislations and regulations.
* Drive value through support functions ensuring appropriate use, demonstrating collaboration, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Candidate Specification
* Proven leader with a credible & detailed understanding of the challenges associated with growing and delivering a highly effective Energy business.
* P&L management experience of a multi‑£m business, adept at operating in an organic matrix structure.
* Inspiring and growth‑focused people leader of sizeable divisions, with a team‑oriented and collaborative focus.
* Able to work closely with peers, delegate, motivate and empower individuals and teams effectively.
* Proven track record in delivering business growth sustainably, with experience supporting opportunities and projects across the UK and internationally.
* Established voice in the energy sector, with the ability to represent brand, vision, and value proposition to develop market presence and manage several complex relationships and priorities.
* Specific experience driving, coordinating and motivating highly technical individuals with a focus towards the energy sector.
* Experience integrating advisory skills and engineering domain skills to deliver improved client outcomes.
* Robust commercial acumen & appreciation of risk and mitigations to protect MM.
* Ability to exercise sound technical and commercial judgement and decision making in complex, often high‑profile situations.
* Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality, trust, and strong business ethics.
* Registered or accredited professional and membership of a relevant professional institution.
