Join Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution team as an Assistant Finance Manager in Derby and help deliver critical infrastructure that powers communities across the region. This is a hybrid role which requires a minimum of 3 days a week in the office/on site, and requires occasional travel to projects across England and Scotland.
Power T&D is involved in unprecedented industry growth, with significant growth for Power within this. An opportunity has arisen to join the Finance team in Power T&D, working as an Assistant Finance Manager supporting our Training and Design & Engineering teams.
Responsible for all aspects of financial management & analysis, cost modelling, reporting & control for the functions. There will be additional exposure to our EDC design team in India, managing the outputs and overall cost modelling for the combined function, but will not be responsible for managing the EDC cost base itself nor be required to travel to India.
What you\'ll be doing
* Budget/Forecast Management.
* Develop and manage budgets for the department, ensuring accurate cost estimations, and tracking expenditures against approved budgets
* Cost Control: Implement cost control measures to optimise department spend without compromising quality, constantly seeking opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
* Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of financial reports feeding into project performance, cost trends, KPI’s and overall financial health.
* Manage period end reporting cycles.
* Support heads of engineering/training understanding performance, through KPI’s on utilisation, overheads and contribution to margin.
* Manage and update the D&E and training financial rate card frameworks to ensure full cost recovery, profitability and reduction of risk profile.
* Preparation of monthly accounts pack for the Engineering Director and Heads of Engineering.
* Presentation of financial results to the Engineering Director and Heads of Engineering.
* Approval and recording of intercompany activity
* Risk Management: Support the engineering team to Identify, review and manage risks. Help identify strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and industry standards.
* Financial Forecasting: Conduct financial forecasting and analysis to support decision-making, project future financial trends, and assess potential impacts.
* Visibility: Attend management meetings in Derby/attendance at sites to ensure integration with the wider engineering team.
* A good level of commercial understanding and experience of NEC option C and E contracts would be advantageous.
* Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance department, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
* Ad Hoc Analysis: Perform ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as needed, addressing specific inquiries from senior management or stakeholders and contributing to informed decision-making.
Who we\'re looking for
* Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to create quality, well-organised financial analysis from multiple data sources.
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* required.
* Previous experience of Balfour Beatty systems including R12, Power BI, IRIS, PBCS would be beneficial
* Strong communication, numerical and presentation skills including the ability to deliver reports orally and written in an objective and persuasive manner, demonstrating initiative and resilience when challenged.
* Strong financial/commercial acumen is desired.
* Proactive, problem-solving individual who takes full ownership and accountability of their work.
* Confidence to work closely with the Commercial team and building good working relationships across the business.
* Act as a strong advocate for best practice, able to support and defend practical deployment and solutions, whilst remaining open to the ideas of others.
