Trust Doctor (eqv to ST3+) in Ophthalmology
Barts Health NHS Trust – Trust Doctor (eqv to ST3+) in Ophthalmology (Cornea and Oculoplastics) – Whipps Cross Hospital.
The post-holder forms part of a team of 14 Consultants supported by an Associate Specialist (1), Clinical Fellows (6), and specialist trainees (5). This 12‑month Cornea and Oculoplastics fellowship can be extended up to two years. Based at Whipps Cross University Hospital, the role offers the opportunity to work with consultants specializing in Cornea, Oculoplastics and Cataract. The timetable includes a variety of corneal and oculoplastic clinics with theatre sessions in both sub‑specialties each week, monthly combined surgery with ENT for endonasal lacrimal surgery, a 1:8 first‑on‑call commitment and a busy eye casualty session.
Main duties of the job
* Attend sub‑specialty clinics (Cornea and Oculoplastics)
* Perform out‑patient procedures
* Attend eye casualty services
* Perform ophthalmic surgery
* Manage eye emergencies including on‑call duties (1:8)
* Vet ophthalmology referrals
* Participation in clinical trials (recruitment, trial treatments, data collection, etc.) and training
Objectives & Aims
* Meet the increasing service needs of the Ophthalmology department at Barts Health NHS Trust and provide a high quality experience and exciting research opportunities to ophthalmology trainees.
* Support the Cornea and Oculoplastics service.
* Gain exposure in surgery including anterior segment, oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery and experience in cataract surgery.
* Participate in audit, teaching, research and clinical trials.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* CCT, FRCOphth, MRCOphth or equivalent
* Fellowship in Cornea, Cataract or Oculoplastics
Experience
* Wide experience and fully competent in cataract surgery
* Experience with general, acute and primary care ophthalmology
* Good knowledge of cornea, anterior segment and oculoplastics
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals in the field of Ophthalmology
* Higher degree MD/PhD in Ophthalmology
Skills
* Teaching skills: Record of teaching at under‑ and post‑graduate levels
* Clinical governance: Record of completed audit projects; understanding of clinical governance and its application to ophthalmology
* IT skills: Competent in the use of electronic patient record systems
* Evidence of multidisciplinary teaching
* Research experience: Papers in peer‑reviewed journals; participation in clinical trials
