Would you like to work on a wide selection of products for clients in the Industrial, Consumer, Energy and Defence industries?We are hiring a mechanical engineer who specialises in analytical sub-disciplines (e.g. fluidics, thermodynamics and heat transfer). You may be a graduate, or a candidate with a couple of years of industry experience. You can expect this role to include a mixture of desk-based and practical tasks.Successful candidates can join us between May October 2026.There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.The Mechanics and Design Department undertakes the development of innovative devices and equipment from concept to manufacture whilst addressing considerable technical and design problems.We combine user centred design, innovative mechanical engineering, a rigorous systematic approach to problem solving and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team. Our work ranges from undertaking complete product developments from concept to market, to providing consulting services for our clients on their technology, strategy or development processes. One of our key capabilities is in fluid dispense technology development e.g. aerosols, foams, microfluidics and heating\/cooling systemsSome examples of some of our more recent exciting and challenging projects we have worked on include:System design of a fully automated larvae rearing system for processing food waste into high value protein for animal feedstock: https:\/\/www.cambridgeconsultants.com\/project\/automated-synthetic-biology-for-high-protein-food-production\/Vinfusion: personalised wine blending and dispensing device with a touch of theatre.LandisGyr: Overcoming smart meter challenges for the last 5%.What youdoingThis is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer with the ambition and intent to achieve excellent results within highly demanding industries under commercial and time constraints. You will be using your technical skills to contribute to product development projects with support and guidance from seniors; from initial idea generation through to the delivery and manufacturing support for market ready products. This may include:Carrying out research into cutting edge technologies and marketsTaking part in concept generation and problem-solving workshopsEvaluating ideas using evidence from modelling or experimentally obtained evidencePreparation of detailed designs, from system to component levelManufacturing of parts and assemblies, hands-on or by liaising with suppliersTesting of designs to ensure they meet the clientand end customersneedsWhat you can bringA successful mechanical engineer in the Mechanics and Design Department will have a strong ability to:Communicate with peers and clients to understand their problems and present your solutionsUse maths and physics to solve complex engineering problems, especially those involving fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamicsDesign elegant solutions to clientproblemsObtain and analyse simulated\/empirical test data to gain insights into design performanceDemonstrate an excellent academic record, studying for or having completed a relevant engineering degreeWe welcome applications from recent graduates with industrial experience, final year students and graduates with relevant academic course or research experience.fWe are looking for excellence and are as interested in your skills and ability to learn quickly as we are in your experience.Along with your CV, please describe why you are attracted to this position, what you feel you offer Cambridge Consultants, and any achievements that you are particularly proud of.
