Hays Education is working in partnership with specialist provisions across East Lancashire to recruit dedicated and resilient Tutors to support secondary-aged pupils (Years 7-11) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.This is a rewarding opportunity for experienced educators or tutors who are passionate about helping vulnerable young people re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.
The Role
You will provide 1:1 tuition only for secondary school pupils with SEMH needs, delivering two hours per pupil per session. Tuition will be fully personalised, taking into account each pupil's academic ability, emotional needs, and capacity to engage with learning.Sessions may take place in specialist schools, alternative provisions, or outreach settings, depending on pupil placement.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver structured and engaging 1:1 tuition to secondary-aged pupils (Years 7-11)
Adapt teaching strategies to meet SEMH needs and support emotional regulation
Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes across appropriate subjects
Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and confidence
Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to schools and Hays
Maintain professional boundaries and follow safeguarding procedures at all timesThe Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience teaching or tutoring secondary school students
A calm, patient and flexible approach to behaviour and learning
QTS, QTLS, PGCE or substantial tutoring/teaching experience
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
