About the Role
We are seeking a Band 6 Nurse to join The Place Of Safety (POS) Meadowfield – a 136 suite providing secure outdoor space, separate accommodation, assessment and office facilities. The role is within a Mental Health hospital with three acute wards and a Haven, and works closely with the crisis team to facilitate appropriate outcomes for service users.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate Mental Health Act (MHA) assessments and liaise with Sussex Police, approved mental health practitioner teams and local community mental health teams for Sections 135 and 136.
* Conduct comprehensive assessments of individuals with complex mental health presentations, including high‑risk cases, and develop collaborative care and recovery plans.
* Offer specialist nursing assessment and advice as required.
* Assess, manage and regularly review ongoing risks in partnership with service users and carers.
* Provide supervision of junior staff and trainees where appropriate.
* Take charge of the clinical environment during duty periods.
* Deliver brief focused interventions aimed at reducing the use of the Mental Health Act and decreasing the need for admissions.
* Work within a 12‑hour shift pattern, with flexibility for day or night shifts, and both full‑time and part‑time hours.
Required Qualifications
* Registered RN with current registration relevant to mental health, learning disability or adult care.
* Completion of a Mentorship course or equivalent (ENB) and experience as a sign‑off mentor.
* Evidence of continuous professional development and significant post‑qualifying experience in a relevant care group.
* Experience supervising staff and students.
* Experience working with people experiencing severe mental health problems, particularly in the acute phase.
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience conducting clinical assessments, including risk assessments.
* Experience partnership working with statutory and non‑statutory teams and agencies.
* Experience working within the CPA process.
* Understanding of clinical governance.
* Professional registration in the UK (Band 6 nurse).
