Occupational Therapist - Rotational

We are looking to recruit Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join the acute Therapy services within St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. These posts will provide an excellent opportunity for both new graduates and Band 5s with current post-registration experience to work with patients and clients who have a wide range of health conditions. We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate in their application form and at interview: relevant hospital experience including skills in autonomous decision making, acute assessment, discharge planning and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Our current rotations include both hospital and community-based rotations which include Surgery, Vascular, Older People's Services, Oncology/ Specialist Medicine, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Stroke, Neurosurgery, Neurorehabilitation and Social Services. The successful candidates will rotate every six months at the beginning of April and October and will have the opportunity to work in various locations across Wandsworth.

You will carry a clinical caseload which will include;

- assessment and treatment of patients within each service line for an array of conditions and to determine clinical reasoning and Occupational Therapy treatment in line with your case formulations

- providing client centred occupational therapy to a defined caseload of service users, working with multi-disciplinary members and the wider occupational Therapy team.


Main duties of the job

The post involves working as part of the wider Interdisciplinary team and working alongside qualified Occupational and Physiotherapists to provide direct patient intervention (both one-to-one and group sessions). These interventions include physical, sensory, cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation sessions.

The role also assists with administrative tasks such as maintenance of equipment loans systems, information gathering and promotion of best quality patient care.

The postholder contributes to seven day working and will work rostered weekends within STAR / Haem-Oncology.

Person Specification


Qualifications and Training

* Qualification in Occupational Therapy.
* Registered as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council.
* Continued Professional Development including evidence of reflective practice and clinical experience gained.


Experience

* Completion of a core practice placement in a hospital or rehabilitation setting.
* Experience in any of the following clinical areas; Elderly, General Medicine, Orthopaedics, Community rehabilitation


Skills

* Clear demonstrable understanding of the OT process.
* Working knowledge of functional and standardised assessment tools.
* Good clinical reasoning skills.
* Able to work harmoniously with a diverse workforce to deliver a quality service to people from different backgrounds.
* Able to work as part of a team
* Flexible approach
* Able to work at moderate to high levels of physical activity involving the delivery of manual therapy, therapeutic handling of patients and the assessment, demonstration and installation of adaptations and equipment.


Knowledge

* Basic assessment of need and problem identification.
* Basic goal setting, planning, intervention and evaluation.
* Knowledge and experience of; Perceptual functioning, Cognitive functioning, Psychological functioning, Activities of daily living
* A clear understanding of evidence based practice.
* An understanding of clinical governance and implications for Occupational Therapy services including experience of quality issues and audit.
* Able to work within Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the needs of patients.


Other

* Considered options for travel in support of community-based rotations when visiting clients in own homes is required.
* Own transport (car/motorbike/bicycle)
