The School and Role
We are looking for a dedicated Teacher or Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil in a primary school in North Tyneside. This part-time role is due to begin after the Easter break and will be ongoing. The hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 12:00pm.
The role will involve supporting a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and a background of trauma, helping them to access learning through personalised and inclusive approaches. Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals, the successful candidate will support the implementation of strategies in line with the graduated approach (assess, plan, do, review), focusing on both emotional regulation and engagement with learning.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with children with SEND, particularly ASD and trauma-related needs. You will have a good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and experience supporting pupils with EHCP targets. The role will involve adapting learning activities, scaffolding tasks, and implementing strategies to support communication, sensory needs, and self-regulation.
You will be confident in supporting Key Stage 2 learning, particularly in literacy and numeracy, and able to adapt resources to ensure the pupil can access the curriculum. You will also contribute to observations, provide feedback on progress, and work collaboratively with staff to ensure provision is effective and responsive.
Strong communication skills, patience, consistency, and the ability to build a trusting, positive relationship with the pupil are essential. Relevant SEND experience and qualifications are required, and training in trauma-informed practice would be highly desirable.
