Teaching Personnel are currently looking for a qualified ELSA to support in a mainstream school with a child on an EHCP. The role will be full time during term time and will be for the remainder of this academic year in the first instance. The school are open to offering a permanent role for a fixed term contract for the right candidate.
An Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) is a specialist teaching assistant who supports children’s social and emotional well-being, usually under the guidance of an Educational Psychologist. They plan and deliver tailored one-to-one or small-group interventions addressing issues such as anxiety, bereavement, anger management, and friendship skills.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Intervention Delivery: Plan and deliver evidence-based, personalised sessions (one-to-one or small groups) focused on emotional regulation and social skills.
* Assessment & Monitoring: Set SMART targets, monitor pupil progress, and maintain accurate, confidential records of all interventions.
* Liaison & Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to review progress and ensure consistent support.
* Pastoral Support: Build trusting relationships and act as a supportive mentor for pupils facing behavioural or emotional challenges.
* Supervision: Participate in regular supervision sessions with an Educational Psychologist.
Person Specification: Essential Skills & Attributes
* Empathy and Calmness: A warm, patient, and approachable manner with the ability to remain composed under pressure.
* Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
* Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with children, staff, and parents.
* Creativity: Ability to develop engaging and diverse resources to support emotional growth.
* Qualifications: Completion of accredited ELSA training is essential.
* Commitment: Capable of working independently and demonstrating initiative
