Job Overview Open to MPFT Applicants Only The Intensive Life Skills (ILS) service is looking for an experienced Assistant Psychologist to join a progressive, enthusiastic and forward thinking service that supports individuals and their families who are experiencing complex emotional needs in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. You will need to have clear understanding of how multidisciplinary teams function well and be passionate about delivering and developing a quality service to working age adults and their families. This role will be fundamental in the delivery of therapeutic groups and the development of these in the future. This post will also the opportunity to utilise skills for reviewing and evaluating best practice in regards to 1:1 and group delivered psychological treatment within the service The post is full time on a permanent basis offering excellent opportunities to develop special professional interests; share expertise and work closely with ILS colleagues. Training, good support and partnership working is offered. We are a county-wide based team and our operational working hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, with some flexibility when required to engage with our service users Main duties of the job Clinical Under the supervision of an HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist (e.g. Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist): To undertake protocol based psychological assessments with service users, family members and others involved in the service users care To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a service user's problems. including simple procedures and techniques related to psychological therapies. To assist in the co-ordination and running of therapeutic groups including receiving and managing referrals, facilitating service user attendance, co-delivering the workshop material and recording outcomes To communicate and liaise with staff from other disciplines. To support the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary pathway meetings. To review case files, depositions etc. where appropriate, analysing information, providing summaries and reports under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. To prepare reports on clinical interventions with individuals and groups, the results of psychometric assessments, case note reviews and research/audit projects. Such reports may be written for, or read by, the service user, psychologists, members of the multidisciplinary team, or staff from external agencies Working for our organisation Come and work with us at our award-winning NHS Trust, leading the way for trying new and better ways of working to help improve life for our local communities. Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities Please see the Job description and person specification for full details on the roles and responsibilities Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria A First or Upper Second honours degree in psychology OR a lower class with a post-graduate qualification e.g.: Masters degree Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society Experience of related work in an inpatient or community mental health setting Experience Essential criteria Significant experience of face-to-face work with, mental health and/or substance misuse or people who have offended Has experience of working within a team setting Desirable criteria Experience of working with people with emotional dysregulation, poor impulse control, and self harm Experience of involvement in the delivery of group-based treatment Experience of working within multidisciplinary settings and multi-agency settings Skills Essential criteria High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive, clients may show hostile or severely challenging behaviour and may be verbally abusive or physically violent An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to an acute or community mental health context. Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively. Recognises the limits of own competence and need for supervision
